DJ Hire FAQ

I can't decide between a band and a DJ?

DJ Hire - DJ Hire FAQ

We can offer a package of a band/vocalist and a DJ for your event. All of our performers are used to working with other acts and we ONLY use acts that are level headed enough to realise that they are working for the client and that the ultimate aim is that the client has a great night and so do not let their ego get in the way of working with other performers.

When a client does book a DJ and a band they will often have the DJ playing background music during/after the meal, then the band will play the first dance and do their first set, which is often around 45 minutes. The DJ then takes over again for around 30 to 45 minutes afterwhich the band come back on for their 2nd set of 45 minutes. The DJ then takes over until the end of the night. This is not set in stone and it can be altered to your preference.

Regarding pricing; Some clients have had an expectation that the DJ would be much cheaper than the listed price in this scenario because he is only playing for a couple of hours. The DJ still has to be at the event the whole night regardless of the actual hours that they are performing for, so it is not realistic to expect the DJ to be much cheaper. We will however try to structure a good package for you that is more competitive than simply booking a DJ and a band separately.

In the Yellow Pages there are some much cheaper acts?

We believe that as with anything in life you get what you pay for. We have always offered high quality entertainment at affordable prices!

A Fiat Punto and a Ferrari are both cars, but at very different prices; the world of entertainment is no different!

Will your DJs play the same cheesy songs such as Agadoo & The Birdie Song that every mobile-disco plays?

DJ Hire - DJ Hire FAQ

It is your event, so our DJs will play the music that you want. All we ask is that you give us a guideline of the types of music you would like to hear, as opposed to a set play list for 4 hours, as these are usually much too rigid and invariably make for a very boring night for the guests. A good DJ constantly watches the guests that are on the dance floor and also those around the room.

We do not use DJs that conform to the Peter Kay stereotype; using lightboxes/lightscreens, ropelights and playing music such as Jive Bunny, Agadoo and the Birdie Song all night. we ask you to give us a guideline of what you're looking for musicwise. Some clients do want some cheese and others want none at all. The main thing that we always seek to establish is your definition of cheese! What one person considers a great party song another person considers to be cheese/corny.

For example many people love YMCA & The Bee Gees and ask for them to be played, while many other people consider them awful and do not want this type of music at all. So you need to let us know your views, and it is worth bearing in mind the tastes of your guests.

Do you accept play lists as we have some favourite songs we would like the DJ to play at our party?

DJ Hire - DJ Hire FAQ

We have a music search facility which enables you to search through our music collection.

If you decide to make a booking with us you would then receive a username and password which would enable you to access the client area of our website and you can then create your own request list. You would be able to add tracks and save it at any point up until 4 days before your actual event.

The entire database comprises of over 90,000 tracks/videos. As long as we are given at least 4 days notice we can ensure that ANY song listed on the database is with the DJ for your event. You are of course welcome to supply your own CD(s) for any real rarities.

When searching through this huge collection to create the request list, previously some clients became very excited at the huge choice available and drew up very lengthy request lists of over 70 songs! It is virtually impossible for the DJ to play such a request list and also makes it very restrictive for the DJ on the night and less able to react to what is happening on the dancefloor and he has to constantly keep looking at a list.

When you enter the client area you will be able to access various planning forms, one of which is named "Requests":

Under the "Classification"  you can add any track you search for to one of 5 classifications.

Play If Possible
Must Play
Dedication
Do Not Play
Play Only If Requested

Please add songs that are very very special to you, to the "Must Play" list.
The "Play If Possible" list is to give the DJ an idea of the types of music you like.
The "Dedication" is for if you want the DJ to announce that the song is for someone in particular.
"Do Not Play" is for any tracks or styles of music you particularly dislike.*
"Play Only If Requested" means the DJ will not play this track unless one of your guests requests it.

The maximum number of tracks that can be saved is 40 entries because, there are only so many songs that can be played in one night! Remember that for a 4-hour event, the maximum amount of songs that could be played is around 50! (Average of 4 minutes per song played back to back).

The database is updated two or three times a year, meaning that it is unlikely to show any current chart hits. All our DJs always have the most current chart hits, so even if a song you like doesn't show up when you search for it, it doesn't necessarily mean that the DJ won't have it. If there is a song that you want played please let us know by emailing/calling us to ask whether we have the track in question. Additionally, some very well known tracks do not display on the database due to a very strange glitch in the system! We are working on trying to rectify this.

We guarantee that we will play ALL songs in your "Must Play" list.

(We cannot accept responsibility for any tracks in this list that clear the dancefloor!)

If your event over-runs (which is extremely common) then it may not be possible to fit all tracks in the "Must Play" list in.

*If there are styles/genres of music you particularly dislike then just choose one track from that style/genre and then in the comments section, state that you do not want any tracks of that genre played.

Can your DJs play background music during the meal?

DJ Hire - DJ Hire FAQ

This again is easily arranged. Just choose the style of music you would prefer to have played during the meal. The most popular choices are the easy listening/rat-pack style sounds. Other popular choices are jazz, acid-jazz & smooth soul.

You will also be able to use the DJs microphone/sound system for the speeches.

The fee is £25 per hour. So for example our standard packages are for up to 5 hours e.g. 7pm to midnight, and your meal commences at 5pm, this would be an extra 2 hours, meaning an additional £50.
