Avoiding ‘Cowboy’ Mobile Discos

Everyone will have a tale of an event they attended where the music was awful, the Disc Jockey failed to show or didn’t come with the right equipment, or they had a very limited selection of music that was not appropriate to the occasion. When the music is an utter disaster, it spoils everyone’s enjoyment of the event. 

So how can you tell the difference between a professional DJ and a Cowboy?

Firstly be very suspicious of someone offering a ridiculously low price of £200 or so for a whole night. It is very important before booking any DJ to check whether their equipment has P.A.T. (Portable Appliance Test) certificates and whether they possess P.L.I.(Public Liability Insurance) These are just two of the many items which separate professional Funky Penguin disc jockeys from the many cowboys around.

Types of functions covered

Club events, weddings, civil partnership ceremonies, private (birthday) parties, corporate functions and black tie functions.

Mobile Disco Contracts

Mobile Disco bookings are only confirmed after the following procedure:

1. A PDF booking form to the client by email.

2. The client then signs this form and returns it with a £100 advanced payment. The form also lists all the terms & conditions. Once this is received the events status is moved to “Booked”.

Mobile Disco Set-up

It usually takes around 45 minutes to set up equipment, and so a Funky Penguin disc jockey will usually arrive at the venue at least 1 hour before the performance time is scheduled to commence.

Disc Jockey Dress Code

Your disc jockey will be ready to perform usually dressed in black tie or smart-casual. After confirming the booking you will receive a password and username where you can access a variety of forms, including a Planning Form. This form contains a section where you can specify which Dress Code is most appropriate for your event.
