Articles - Music

As with general pop music it should be a synch for an event where party music is what's required to have the crowd dancing all night! After-all, all you need to do is throw on a load of party classics and the crowd will love it?

Many young & inexperienced can DJs take a while to solve the above conundrum. There are some great party tracks which if played too early just won't work as well and others that will work fantastically with some audiences and will kill the dancefloor with other audiences. It's also about knowing when not too push it too far. If for example you have a crowd that is made up of a wide age-range; while they may all want cheesy/party music, if you play 10 tracks in a row from the 50's or from the past decade for example, the chances are that you're gonna annoy a few people. A good DJ will read the crowd and play a few tracks from different era's/genres and then move onto something different, throughout the night to try to keep everyone happy.

It's also important to know what the boundaries are as far as party music is concerned. The DJ will find out from the host and also judge for themself by reading the crowd, what "cheese" is acceptable and what is too far! For example some crowds will love things like the macarena and the hokey cokey while at many other events they would clear the floor.

The Funky Penguin DJs will chat with the host(s) beforehand and try to ascertain their feelings on cheesy music and what their boundaries are, and coupled with their experience will judge the mood/atmosphere on the night and play just the right party tracks for that particular crowd.
